Building Department The Building Department is responsible for Building permits, Commercial & Residential inspections, Commercial plans, and Contractor registration. The Building department is in charge of Code variances through the Building Code and Zoning Committee. Engineering
The Engineering Department is responsible for the design and construction of all improvements within public right-of-ways and easements. This includes public improvements as directed by the mayor and city council as well as new subdivisions being installed by developers. In addition, the department is responsible for maintaining records of all sewers, culverts and waterlines within the city. Subdivision plats and individual plot plans of single family homes are also on file. All of this information is available to the public and copies may be obtained for a reasonable cost.
This department also maintains computer generated zoning and infrastructure maps. These maps were created using AutoCAD Release 13 and provide valuable information to developers and real estate agents. Zoning maps are continually updated and copies are available.

To verify any zoning classifications please call 440-580-3120. Finally, inspectors, as well as engineers are available to answer a variety of questions. Traffic information relative to construction work as well as general questions concerning any roadway construction can be answered by calling the Engineering Department. In addition, questions concerning drainage problems, property line locations or any other issues concerning grading or underground utilities can be directed to the Engineering Department.
